Our Club History

The Runners Club started as a group of running enthusiasts on 5th February 2016 and through social media (WhatsApp) grew from 6 members to 1,000+ members. The Club is incorporated under The Trustees Incorporation Act (Cap 318 R. E. 2002) as a Trust and registered under the National Sports Council of Tanzania Act, 1967 as a sports club with registration number NSC 12396 dated 31st July 2019.

The Club is an organizer, race manager, advisor, supporter, and a major participant of running events in Tanzania. The famous Dar City Marathon, the iconic City Centre race, is our landmark annual event, with an ambition of becoming the most prestigious race in Dar es Salaam. The first edition was successfully held on 23rd May 2021, with more than 2,000 runners and it will continue to grow year after year.

Dar Night Run (DNR) is our innovative and unique night race in Dar es Salaam, running for the past four (4) years in the last Saturday of August. The 4th edition was successfully held on 4th September 2021 with more than 1,000 runners and hundreds of supporters across the streets of Dar es Salaam. The Club plans to introduce trail running events from 2022 outside Dar es Salaam.

The Club leverages its expertise and large membership base to provide race management services to other races through partnerships and agency services including Kilimanjaro Marathon, DAM DAM Marathon, CRDB Bank Marathon, NBC Dodoma Marathon, and UDSM Marathon. Particularly, we have a good partnership with Wild Frontiers, the organizers of the famous Kilimanjaro Marathon to provide hydration and refreshments to participants during the marathon.
